2017-2018 Board of Directors
Left. Melanie Buck, Kim Abramson, Secretary, Charlie Rossow, Floy Creveling,
Jeannie Lindberg, President, Gene Woodley, Vice President, Jim Spotts, Treasurer.

Becoming President is a daunting experience and honor. So many have worked so hard for so many years to create, nurture and grow this remarkable accomplishment that is the Morongo Basin Historical Society. I take this frightening responsibility to not mess it up now very seriously.

So we’ve been working to finish some great projects we inherited.

1. Progress on the Assay Office/Miners Cabin is in full swing. The new doors have been installed and work continues on the windows. Soon we’ll be able to start placing the artifacts in the cabin that we’ve been storing.

2. The first exhibit in our “Decades in the Desert” project, the 1950’s, is on display in the Museum. Please come take a look. We’re planning an event so you can experience, not just remember, the 50’s.

3. We’ve found a retired phone man who will re-wire the pay phone and make it useable again. Now all we need are the Marines to move it to its permanent location next to the Post Office.

4. Discussions continue the planning of the full size Vertical Mine outdoor exhibit.

5. We’re very excited to be assisting with the partial preservation of a very important historic building in Yucca Valley. Much more to come on this one.

The Goal is to create a destination at the Museum and Research Lab that the Historical Society and community at large can be proud of and enjoy.

Please come on this journey with us. Regular hours at the Museum and Research Lab are Tuesday, Friday and Saturday from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, or by appointment.

You will be welcome anytime to visit,
explore and maybe even volunteer.
